Getting to Mui Ne from Saigon

Getting to Mui Ne from Saigon

There are several ways to get from Saigon to Mui Ne
1) Taking a Coach - This is the cheapest and most direct way but it would be a very long journey, typically 5 - 7 hours depending on the traffic. There would be a toilet break in between, but if you hate dirty toilets, then it would quite torturous. The only good thing is that they send you straight to your hotel in Mui Ne, so it saves cost from the different mode of transport

2) Taking a train from Saigon Train Station to Phan Thiet Train Station. This is the nearest train station to Mui Ne, it is about 20km, and Taxi fare would be around 200,000VND. Next Nearest  station from Mui Ne is Bin Thuan, but it is much further from Mui Ne, 40km, so taxi fare would be more expensive as well. However, there is only 1 train from Saigon to Phan Thiet daily and it is very very early at 650am. Quite a tiring journey where you have to get up early. At least the train is comfortable and only takes 4 hours.

Buying train tickets - Online via agent, which they would send it straight to the hotel. Most convenient option as the train website is only in Vietnamese and it is quite hard for foreigners to buy. Another option is to travel to the train station to buy, but that would depends on the time and cost to travel one day in advance to purchase it. For me, it cost at least 20SGD for return taxi and I would rather pay abit more for an agent.

3) Taking a taxi/Mini Van - most expensive option, which comes up to about 70-100USD. Most convenient option and flexible timing. It would be worth it only when you have a few friends to share with.

Saigon train Station

The train station is very simple and only a few gates and trains. Not as complicated as those in big european cities. Not many people speak english so it is quite hard to communicated and very frustrating at times.

After the 4 hours train ride, we have arrived at Phan Thiet Station. It is also a very simple station - just a ticket office, some chairs and a stall selling snacks and drinks.

Taxi are plenty at train arrival timings , so there's no worries of getting a taxi to the hotel in Mui Ne. I purchased only a one way ticket from the Train agent as it is rather expensive. Bought the return ticket from the ticket office which is much cheaper. ID is needed, so it took quite some time to get the ticket. By the time we have finished purchasing the tickets, we were the last few people at the train station, and were treated like VIPs by the Taxi Coordinator. He offered to carry the luggages, so was quite impressed when it was like a chaos 10 minutes ago.

Accomodation: The Cliff Resort and Spa

Paid $222 for 2 nights at one of the most basic rooms, which is about $55/person/day. It's one of the more upscale resorts in Mui Ne. Couldn't really tell from the pictures on the booking website, but when I arrived, I was quite impressed with the hotel exterior and welcome service.

Most taxi drivers will know this "the lif" which they can't pronounce it correctly. After awhile, I just got used to it and wasn't so afraid that they didn't know the place.

Beautiful view from the room, with partial Sea View!

Welcome drinks and towels

The view is awesome from the restaurant, and I'm glad I chose this hotel!

The pool was one of my fave hangout place. The weather was so hot I just decided to spend the day dipping in the pool. This is my favorite part of the pool - shaded, drinks available and the latest hit musics.

Dinner at the restaurant. Price is quite reasonable and the food is good! Ordered the pan fried pork chop with fish sauce and I love the sauce. It's one of the local produce of Mui Ne so I decided to give it a try - sweet and salty, quite yummy! Relaxing and not too cluttered except for the noise from the gala dinner.

Horseback riding in the safari

Today's outfit of the day is summer 2015's latest trend - tribal style!
Top: Zara
Pants: H&M
Bangles and Necklace: Primark
Sandals: Charles and Keith

Most of the new arrivals this season are tribal prints. I've never really ventured into this look so I will just give it a try. The pants are so comfy, but they draw a thin line between looking auntie/pajamas looking like and tribal stylish, so the key is accessorising and having a plain top. Prints on prints is overkill.

Today, Im up early and ready to head to Krugersdorp National park for horseback riding. My initial plan was to go for the day tour at pilansberg nature reserve + sun city. It requires a visa stamp cos it's out of the gauteng area. However, I wasn't able to get the visa stamp at the airport. Was pretty upset initally but I managed to find an alternative, and that's with Henry's Horseback Riding in the Safari. It's still located within the gautend province so it wasn't an issue.

Henry's Horseback Riding in the Safari website:
http://www.henryshorsebacksafari.co.za/photo-gallery.html

Price: 750 Rand
Pickup: 8am - 830am

There are other operators on the internet but this is just convenient as there's a brochure in the hotel.

Me and my partner in crime. The journey to the national park took almost an hour, and along the way we saw beautiful and scenic views of the rural area.

When we arrived at the horseback riding lodge, we had to sign and indemity form. Very smart - they protect themselves from all sorts of blames and pass the risk to us. Then they gave us a hat which we can choose to wear it or not. For me, it just completes the look, then i realised how useful it was in blocking the sun on my face throughout the ride. It was a cloudless day with beautiful clear sky and strong sun.

The guy could tell that I wanted a white horse. oh how he read my mind!!! This is cloudy and she's a female.

First sighting was the giraffe and I was so excited to see the giraffe! It's super tall and this giraffe was the only one that didn't run away when the troop of horses approached him.
I was at it's backside and was hoping it doesn't let any gas out/shit/pee.

The tall yet docile animal. super loving it.

The family of 3 which ran away when our troop of horses approach them. I'm amazed how they are all facing the same direction in the same angle. It's like they knew people were around snapping family portrait of them.
Managed to catch Mr Giraffe in the background.

More animals in the sighting. It was such a magnificent sight. I felt like I was in the nat geo filming location. A vast piece of land with barely and tall buildings/civilisation - just nature in its original form, animals grazing, interaction between the animals. They seem to have a formation when they travel and that's pretty amusing.

Camouflaging is in their nature.

Holding on to my dear life cos this female horse apparently has some mood swing. At times, it just keep stopping by and can't make up its mind if she wants to eat this plot of grass. Then all of a sudden, she gallops and caught me off-guarded. There's this time she totally went under a tree and i got caught in the branches. It was too late for me to steer her to the right to avoid the tree, and I had to use my right hand to break some branches, my left hand holding on to the saddle for my life. It left a huge patch of abrasion and scratches on my left arm. The only lucky thing was my face was scratch free and I didn't fall off the horse.

After almost 1 hour of riding and animal sighting it became quite tiring. My leg muscles were aching and I was dying to head back to the lodge. However I was still taking in the beauty of the safari and remembering as much of it.

Ok, I think cloudy is tired too. It's a memorable and unforgettable experience partly cos of my injury, but I still thought I had to do this. It's not all the time that I travel to S.Africa and probably not a destination I would travel to on my own for a holiday.

Feasting like a king in south africa

Johannesburg here i am! Havent been here for quite some time. Had ocean basket which is similar to fish and co in singapore, but taste much better, fresher, cheaper and more generous over here! Its actually inspired by this that fish and co is started.

The selection from the menu is so huge its almost spoilt for choice. The pick of the ocean looked best to me and its only 99 rand, about 10 usd.
pic with the colleauges before starting the meal. Pics are mandatory prior to meals. lol

This is my ocean pick of the day - 6 succulent prawns with cheese and cream, fish, calamari, half portion of rice and fries. After the meal I was sooooo full and satisfied.
Thi

Meat in Africa is in abundance! Check out the carnivore and her victims.

Boufe cafe Singapore

Its the long weekend and I finally got to meet my favourite group of girls. We hardly meet as eveyone has a busy schedule but everytime we meet, we could easily pick up the conversations we had the previous time.
Found a new cafe at phoenix park - combi of boutique and cafe hence the name boufe. The boutique area is just a rack of clothes a changing room, totally not what I thought it would appear. It's hard to reach unless by a car/taxi. Partly of this reason, i like this place as it's not as crowded or having a long waiting list that you feel stressed to leave for the next table. I also like that the outdoor seatings are close to nature and perfect for pictures!

London Fortnum and Mason

Wanted to do breakfast at Fortnum and Mason, but there was some breakfast plans. I still wanted to head down to the store after seeing how pretty the dining place was.

Location
Picadilly Station. Its really easy to get here, just right outside the Picadilly Station

181 Piccadilly
London
W1A 1ER

The Store at Picadilly is the flagship store. There are several other stores around in London central.

Opening Hours
Monday to Saturday 10am to 9pm
Sunday 11.30am* to 6pm
11:30am to 12 noon for browsing only

The Interior of the store is very grand and old-english style. Huge hanging chandeliers set on high ceilings, tins of cookies, tea, coffee all around the shop.
There are 5 restaurants in the building.
On the first level is The gallery and The fountain. Both have menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner menu. On the other levels are a wine bar, ice cream and dessert palour. Lastly on the highest floor is the most talked about Diamond Jubilee Tea Saloon. They are different Tea menu at 41pounds. Really expensive for a high tea. I will probably go there one day when I'm feeling rich and havent got any shopping to be done.

For now, I will just have lunch and some dessert at the Fountain. I was wow-ed by the interior of the entrance and bar area. Absoloutely my kind of place.

It was quite funny how my friend commented there was many old people around. I glanced around. Indeed there were many elderly dining here, but I was like hey doesn't it add to the authentic english feel? It's better than seeing many tourists around, it just loses the essence of the place.

Ordered a Leek and Potato soup. Then, this lady came with a rattan basket incribed with F&M, which opened up to a selected of 4 kinds of bread - Wheat, white, fruit, nuts. That's pretty interesting.

My tea came in the most beautiful tea set I've ever seen. Makes the whole dining experience like a princess.

Chocolate lava cake with pistachio Ice cream. Ice cream was heavenly nutty taste of pistachio.
